GILMAN — Mark Albertsen has been named the next principal of East Marshall Elementary School, pending School Board approval.
Albertsen will succeed Cathy DeBondt, who is retiring after 12 years in the role.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mark Albertsen as the next principal of East Marshall Elementary,” East Marshall Superintendent Anthony Ryan said. “His extensive experience and dedication to education make him an ideal choice to lead our elementary school into the future. Additionally, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Cathy DeBondt for her years of dedicated service to our school community.”
With over 17 years of experience in school administration, Albertsen most recently served as an enrollment supervisor at Auxiant in Cedar Rapids, where he oversaw hiring, supervision, and performance reviews within the enrollment department. Albertsen also assisted in implementing company policies and procedures by completing monthly system reports.
Albertsen’s educational background includes serving as the K-5 principal of Dysart-Geneseo Elementary School and the 6-8 principal of Union Middle School, in addition to extensive experience in coaching. He holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Western Illinois University.
“I am honored to join the East Marshall community and serve as the elementary principal,” he said. “I am committed to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I firmly believe that by aligning with our values, goals, and overall mission, we will cultivate well-rounded, productive future leaders.”
Albertsen will officially begin leading East Marshall Elementary School on July 1, 2024.
