Friends and colleagues of retired Marshalltown Fire Chief David Rierson stopped by the police/fire station on Thursday afternoon for a sendoff event as the chief and his wife Edie prepare to move back to the Kansas City area. Along with his own firefighters, police officers, city leaders and his wife and her coworkers at the Marshall County Attorney’s Office, the chiefs from the Clinton, Muscatine, Mason City, Ankeny, Altoona and Waukee and the state fire marshal all made the trip over to Marshalltown to wish Rierson well. He led the department for 9 ½ years, and current Deputy Chief Christopher Cross has assumed the role of interim chief now that Rierson has used up his remaining vacation days.
