Marshall County double homicide suspect arrested in Des Moines

DES MOINES — A man who is charged with two counts of first degree murder for his alleged role in a double homicide north of Marshalltown was arrested in Des Moines on Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., Ilias Julian Lasley, 29, was taken into custody without incident in the 4700-block of Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa by law enforcement, according to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

Lasley is charged with two counts of first degree murder, both Class A felonies, in connection with the deaths of Mario Murillo, 28, and Frances Tillie Gasca, 33, both ofMarshalltown. Additional charges are pending as this incident remains under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

The MCSO was assisted by multiple law enforcement agencies including the Iowa DCI, the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, the Marshalltown Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the U.S. Marshal’s Office, the Grinnell Police Department, and the Meskwaki Nation Police Department.

The release indicated that additional information will be provided as the investigation continues.
