TRAER — On Wednesday, June 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m., The Parsonage at Ripley UCC (513 Fourth Street, Traer) will host an open mic for the Traer community, featuring Katie Sires of Katie and the Honky Tonks and serving free root beer floats. This is part of a new monthly series, intended to give Traerites an opportunity to come together, share talents, support local music/poetry/comedy, and socialize in a non-bar venue.

Although this is a church-owned space, the music need not be religious, just generally family friendly (PG-13 max). All are welcome to come and participate, or just watch. The event is pay-what-you-can, welcome and inclusive.

Blending elements of twangy honky tonk, Americana, and rockabilly, Katie Sires’ music is a testament to the power of storytelling through song. With a voice that resonates raw emotion and lyrics that speak straight to the heart, listeners are transported to the golden era of Honky Tonk music.

Born and raised in small-town Iowa and the youngest of four children, Katie spent much of her early years with her grandma, Evonne. Friday nights were spent watching Marty Stuart and the Statler Brothers on Iowa Public Television, igniting a passion for the timeless sound of country music that would shape her future.

In 2019, the band, Katie & the Honky Tonks was formed. Making their mark on the live music scene with their electrifying performances and authentic sound. Having shared the stage with notable artists such as Josh Turner, Jon Pardi, Emily Nenni and The Marshall Tucker Band, they have captivated audiences with their blend of classic charm and modern flair.

With a sound that pays homage to the legends of the past while breathing new life into the beloved genre, Katie aims to keep shining a light on the timeless sound that has shaped generations. Her music serves as a tribute to the icons of Honky Tonk, Americana, and rockabilly, while also forging a path forward with her own distinctive voice and style. Their infectious energy and genuine passion for the music they play have garnered praise and recognition from fans and critics alike.

For Katie Sires, music is more than just a career — it’s a way of life. With each song she sings and each stage she graces, she continues to honor the legacy of Honky Tonk music while carving out her own place in its storied history. With her heartfelt lyrics and undeniable talent, she is sure to leave a lasting impression on audiences for years to come.
