The annual Meskwaki Powwow, which kicked off Thursday, had a surprise celebrity guest as revered actor and filmmaker Viggo Mortensen, best known for his role as Aragorn in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, visited the event and even taste tested Mary YoungBear’s famous frybread. According to YoungBear’s daughter Sarah, who posted several photos of the actor on social media, Mortensen had family members who had never been to a powwow, found out about the Meskwaki event and decided to stop by. Here, he is pictured with Meskwaki Tribal Council Chairman Vern Jefferson. The powwow runs through Sunday with daily grand entrances at 1 and 7 p.m.
