To further its sustainability initiatives, the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA partnered with Alliant Energy to host a 500-kilowatt solar project on its property. The site is now in operation.

“We are excited to partner with Alliant Energy on this project, which provides increased access to sustainable energy in our community,” said Kim Jass-Ramirez, CEO of the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA. “This strengthens an already solid partnership the Y has with Alliant Energy that has resulted in a positive impact on the community in many ways.”

Alliant Energy owns, operates and maintains the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA Solar Project as part of its Alliant Energy Customer-Hosted Renewables program. The project is comprised of approximately 1,000 solar panels near the corner of East Main Street and North 18th Avenue. The project will also provide the energy company the opportunity to study how projects like this affect local distribution system reliability.

“This project showcases the benefits of renewable energy and a new source of reliable energy for the community,” said Amanda Accola, senior key account manager for Alliant Energy. “We’re appreciative the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA’s forward-looking leadership sees the same vision we have for a more sustainable and reliable energy future.”

The project contributes to progress in Alliant Energy’s Clean Energy Blueprint, the company’s roadmap to diversify its energy mix and accelerate its transition to renewable energy. It also helps the company stay on track toward its Clean Energy Vision, which includes a goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from its utility operations by 2050.
