MFD responds to room fire at Super 8 Thursday night

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO — The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a blaze at the Super 8 on South Center Street Thursday evening. No injuries were reported.

The Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to the Super 8 Motel at 3315 S. Center St. on Thursday evening at approximately 9:15 p.m. for a reported fire in one of the rooms. Upon arrival, fire department personnel found smoke showing from a window on the second floor, according to a press release.

The fire crew entered the building and found a small fire at the foot of a bed in a guest’s room. The fire was quickly brought under control with a pressurized water extinguisher. Firefighters were at the scene for approximately two hours.

The motel was evacuated during the incident, but there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. The motel resumed normal operations following the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
