Thursday’s event was a going away party of sorts for departing Parks and Recreation Director Geoff Hubbard, who will soon be relocating to Johnston to take the same position there. Even as the days wind down before he moves on to the new adventure, he was in his usual high spirits serving as a purse model.

The annual Power of the Purse fundraiser for the Marshalltown Area United Way brought a sizable crowd to Midnight Garden on Thursday night to raise money for all of the causes the MAUW supports. The goal for the event was to raise $50,000 (final tallies were not yet available at presstime), and if that number was reached, one of the purse models, Zach Tomesch, promised to shave off his lengthy mane of hair.
