A large group of trick or treaters walk down West Main Street in search of Halloween goodies. The street had a significant number of children and teens stopping at the homes with outside lights on just 30 minutes into the evening.
The Grim Reaper, aka Brian Helland of West Main Street, hands out some chocolate . . . including Butterfingers . . . to trick or treaters. He said there was a good turnout this year, with kids knocking on doors immediately at 5 p.m., when trick or treating began.

Ghouls and goblins, Harry Potters and Storm Troopers strolled the sidewalks of Marshalltown on Saturday for the annual Halloween trick or treating. Besides the large amount of traditional candy, the revelers also might have received servings packs of chips or cookies. Different houses had spooky or fun decorations outside to add to the fun. In 2023, the Marshalltown City Council designated the last Saturday in October as the city’s trick or treat to avoid competition with various trunk or treats.
