Father of burglary suspects arrested in connection with crimes

Giles Clark

Clark

Giles Evan Richard Clark, the father of two local men who were recently charged with stealing from the Marshalltown Mall and a residence on East Olive Street, respectively, has himself been apprehended by local law enforcement in connection with both incidents after a warrant was issued for his arrest last week.

According to court records, two separate criminal complaints were filed against Giles Clark, 50, of Marshalltown, on Nov. 12 — the first, charging him with felony first degree theft, alleged that he possessed roughly 20 boxes of stolen Mechdyne equipment allegedly taken from the mall with a total estimated value of $50,147.33 at his residence on West Boone Street. His son Ashton Clark was charged with stealing $180,000 worth of electrical equipment from the mall property last December.

A second complaint charges Giles Clark with first degree theft (a Class C felony), third degree burglary (a Class D felony) and possession of burglar’s tools (an aggravated misdemeanor) over allegations that he and his son Hunter robbed an East Olive Street residence on Aug. 14, along with felon in possession of a firearm, a Class D felony.

The complaint alleges that Giles Clark entered into an unoccupied structure without permission from the victim, left behind burglary tools and stole $135,000, $20,000 in savings bonds, and a large quantity of collectible silver coins.

“A cigarette butt was left behind at the scene, and after a DNA analysis was completed by (the Department of Criminal Investigation), a match was made to the defendant’s DNA. The defendant also possessed a collectible silver coin in his registered vehicle, which was later identified by the victim as one of his many stolen coins,” it reads.

When a search warrant was served on Oct. 4, a long gun was found in Clark’s residence, and he is already a convicted felon in connection with a previous Marshall County theft case. The arrest warrant against Clark was served on Friday, and according to the jail inmates website, none of the Clarks were listed as being in custody as of Monday evening.

Starting at $4.38/week.
