Suspects charged in two separate vehicle theft incidents Wednesday

Two Marshall County men were arrested and charged with first degree felony theft earlier this week over allegations that they stole vehicles in two separate incidents.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD), Matthew Theodore Dickerhoff, 41, was pulled over in the 100 block of North 3rd Street Wednesday afternoon after an officer received a camera alert about the vehicle he was driving being stolen. As it turned out, it belonged to Enterprise, and it had been rented in Roswell, N.M. and not returned.
“The defendant said he received the vehicle from his sister before Christmas. (The) Roswell PD said that the sister claimed she returned the vehicle to Enterprise, but did not. She reportedly told the defendant that he could drive the vehicle and did not say when it needed to be returned. The defendant reasonably knew that he was in possession of stolen property,” the complaint reads.
Dickerhoff was booked into the Marshall County Jail on a $10,000 bond, and he was still listed as an inmate as of Thursday evening. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m., and he was also charged with driving while license denied, suspended, cancelled or revoked and held on a bond of $491.25 for that offense.
Not long after, Bradley Baumann Jr., 41, of Clemons was arrested at the trailer park located at 2552 Smith Ave. and also charged with first degree theft over allegations that he knowingly possessed a stolen vehicle valued at over $10,000.
“The defendant was in possession of and admitted to stealing a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 from a residence in Hardin County,” the criminal complaint reads. “The defendant was working on the truck when I contacted him, and he attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody. (The) value of the truck was in excess of $50,000.”
He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance — third or subsequent offense after the investigating officer allegedly found a baggie of methamphetamine inside his pants pocket. Baumann’s bond was also set at $10,000 cash, and he remained in custody as this issue went to press. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
