Marshalltown brothers face federal drug charges

A pair of Marshalltown brothers are facing federal drug distribution charges.

Marcel Oden, 52 and Jerry Oden, 55, both are charged with one count of knowingly distributing 100 or more grams of heroin. Jerry Oden is also facing five additional counts of knowingly distributing a mix of heroin and fentanyl.

They were arrested Jan. 30, and the trial is scheduled to begin in the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Des Moines on June 30.

Jerry Oden’s additional charges relate to incidents on May 3, May 16, May 28, June 12 and July 9 when investigators conducted five controlled drug purchases.

According to federal court documents, Jerry Oden was in charge of selling the drugs, which he did from his home and a Casey’s gas station where he worked. Investigators also have surveillance of him selling to multiple customers. Marcel Oden stored the drugs and provided them to Jerry Oden for the sales.

After reviewing criminal history, it was determined the brothers, who were born in Eloise, Mich., would remain incarcerated. Marcel Oden, who owns The Main Stop and real estate business Mad Flipz, has an active warrant for his arrest in Michigan for failure to pay child support. He also violated probation previously and has a history of violence and firearm offenses. In addition, in Marshall County court, Marcel Oden is facing a $3,614 money judgement from Spring Oaks Capital, which was filed May 1.

Jerry Oden’s history showed he had problems with addiction, but also that he has been sober for the last 10 years. His Marshall County court history shows an open parole violation case filed on Feb. 25, a domestic violence charge, four drug offenses and 18 traffic violations, of which eight were dismissed.
