McKibbin pleads not guilty, trial set for June
A Marshalltown woman who stands accused of misappropriating thousands of dollars from nonprofit organizations she was previously involved with back in March has pleaded not guilty, and a jury trial in the matter is currently set to begin on June 17.
April Lee McKibbin, 45, is facing charges of first degree theft, a Class C felony, second degree theft, a Class D felony, and identity theft over $1,500 less than $10,000, a Class D felony. She turned herself in to local authorities on March 8 before subsequently posting bond, and on April 16, her defense attorney, Jennifer Weaver, filed a formal plea of not guilty on McKibbin’s behalf.
While the entities McKibbin is alleged to have stolen from have not been publicly named, previous reporting in the T-R indicates that she was involved with Bobcat Booster Club, the Assistance League of Marshalltown and the After Prom Committee. She worked as the Marshall County economic development director for the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce for about 2 ½ months before she was terminated last December due to the criminal investigation.
