Remembering the fallen 50 years later: Grundy and Hardin County Vietnam War casualties
Editor’s Note: This is the second story in a series of nine honoring the 32 casualties and one Missing-in-Action veteran from Grundy, Hardin, Marshall and Tama counties during the Vietnam War, Nov. 1, 1955-April 30, 1975 and fought in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Nearly 3 million servicemen and women fought in the conflict, which claimed the lives of 58,220 Americans. As a tribute, the Times-Republican is listing at a minimum – the rank, full name, branch of service, home town – and if possible date of birth, death, age and burial location from the four counties. The information was obtained courtesy of the Central Iowa Vietnam Veterans Involvement Committee archives, the Iowa Vietnam War Memorial Directory of Names, Kennan Sada of Tama County and findagrave.com Other information was submitted by family and friends. The first installment — published April 30 — featured the April 29 Iowa Vietnam Veterans Recognition & Darwin Judge Commemoration Day event at the Iowa Veterans Home. Today’s installment features fallen veterans from Grundy and Hardin counties.
