La Familia Breakfast, Bar & Grill soft opens this week

T-R PHOTO BY ROBERT MAHARRY — The La Familia Breakfast, Bar and Grill team poses for a photo inside the new restaurant at 1005 Lincoln Way, which officially soft opened this week.

La Familia Breakfast, Bar & Grill, 1005 Lincoln Way, is open for business. This week saw a soft opening, now through Sunday, with discounted prices, as a way of drawing in customers and getting a feel for what people most enjoy on the menu.

Brothers Daniel, Jose Angel, Jose Luis, Miguel and Ramon Regalado own the eatery. In addition, they own the attached Impala Ballroom and Supermarket Villachuato. Daniel felt it was time to dive back into the restaurant business. The idea: offer homemade meals and breakfast classics delicious for the whole family.

“I’ve had this idea in my mind for a while, because there’s a big need for a good breakfast restaurant in the community,” Daniel said.

The cooks in the kitchen are family members, who put their own twist on the dishes.

“We have some homemade sauces, and things we’ve tweaked over the years to perfection, and that’s what we’re bringing to the table,” he added. “All the dishes you could say are special. Our food is fresh, and that’s the uniqueness about us. It’s local and fresh.”

Breakfast, currently served 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., include: omelets, breakfast burritos, French toast, Bananas foster, pancakes, Eggs Benedict, steak and eggs, country fried steak, chilaquiles and more.

“As things change, we’ll see how it develops, but hopefully it will eventually be all-day breakfast,” he said.

Appetizers feature wings, mushroom croquettes, fried pickles, chicken strips, onion rings and mozzarella sticks. Paninis come in Philly cheesesteak, pesto chicken avocado and chicken gouda, while sandwich offerings are BLT, clubs, and chicken avocado. Burger lovers can try the Texas, Baja, Hawaiian, BBQ mushroom, black bean, or the classic. Quesadillas come in shrimp, chicken or steak. Wraps include bacon avocado, steak chipotle, buffalo chicken and the Korean steak, made up of Bulgogi beef, salad mix, pickles and sriracha aioli. The salads are available in rancher, fajita, Shrimp Loui and chef.

Steaks are also on the menu, plus pasta dishes including Alfredo, baked steak Gorgonzola, spaghetti, shrimp scampi, and more. Seafood includes maple glazed salmon and swordfish.

Kids can enjoy eggs, pancakes, grilled cheese, burgers and chicken strips.

The restaurant also features a full bar.

Soft opening hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Its temporary phone line is: 641-657-8360. The owners ask that people reach out via phone or Facebook this week to reserve a general time slot for your visit. They may also be reached at: Owner@lafamiliabbg.com

Looking to the future, the Regalados expect to expand and tweak the menu, based on customers’ feedback. This includes offering daily, weekly and monthly specials.

“This will not be the final menu. It’s the opening round, and we’ll be bringing in specials and let the people decide what they want. We’re going to build this from the ground up, and it’s something we’re really excited about,” Daniel said. “It’s local and family owned, and we’re going to be engaged with the community: outreach, with the schools, that’s what we want to do.”

After this week, hours of operation will be: Tuesday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hours are subject to change.
