Marshalltown man leads brief chase, crashes car into house on N. Center St.

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO — After a brief chase, 20-year-old Aunt Aung allegedly crashed the vehicle he was driving into a house at 607 N. Center St. and damaged the porch on Friday evening. He is now facing criminal charges.

A Marshalltown man was arrested on Friday night after allegedly attempting to flee from an officer who pulled him over and crashing the vehicle he was driving into the porch of a residence on North Center Street.

According to the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD), an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle driving carelessly and attempted to stop the vehicle around 2nd Avenue and State Street before the driver, 20-year-old Aunt Aung of Marshalltown, fled from the stop.

Additional MPD officers were in the area to assist, and the chase ended quickly when Aung crashed at the curve on North Center Street and damaged the porch at 607 N. Center St. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

Aung was charged with careless driving, eluding, OWI, underage possession of alcohol and various additional traffic related offenses. According to court records, Aung was released on a $2,000 bond, and a preliminary hearing is set for June 9 at 9:30 a.m.
