MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — The Meskwaki Annual Powwow Association has announced that the 109th Annual Meskwaki Powwow, will now be held at the Meskwaki Casino grounds due to recent flooding.

In a Facebook post shared on Tuesday evening, the association announced the venue change.

“The Iowa River is currently over its banks and is flooding the powwow grounds, the time needed for the river water to recede and the ground to become dry, and the cleanup needed is not going to be feasible for us to host it at the Meskwaki Powwow Grounds this year.”

The event will now utilize the Outdoor Arena at the Meskwaki Casino. A temporary powwow arena will be constructed on the west side of the Outdoor Arena, with vendors placed in the nearby fenced-in area and dancing on the adjacent grassy space.

“We are working closely with the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Management team to finalize arrangements, and we are grateful for their continued support,” said organizers in their statement.

The Meskwaki Powwow Association invites everyone to join in the celebration of culture, community, and tradition at its new location: the Meskwaki Casino, Aug. 7-10.

Starting at $4.38/week.
