Fireworks complaints down in Marshalltown over 4th weekend
With the state legislature essentially lifting all restrictions on residents shooting off fireworks on July 3 and 4, the number of local complaints has dropped fairly dramatically in 2025, according to data provided by Marshalltown Police Chief Chris Jones.
So far in 2025, there have been just 74 complaints with one arrest in 2025, he said, down from 106 and three arrests in 2024, 148 and 46 arrests in 2023, 190 and 22 arrests in 2022 and 192 with 29 arrests in 2021. The one arrest so far this year was for shooting off fireworks on June 27.
Outside of July 3, July 4, and Dec. 31, the discharging of consumer fireworks is still illegal within the Marshalltown city limits.
