Man charged with attempted murder after stabbing

A man has been arrested and charged with felony attempted murder after an alleged stabbing on May Street Thursday morning.
According to a press release from the Marshalltown Police Department, officers and medics were dispatched to the aforementioned address in response to a reported stabbing at 7:37 a.m. and arrived on the scene three minutes later to find an adult male suffering from stab wounds.
The victim was transported by EMS to UnityPoint Hospital and then later transferred to a Des Moines hospital, sustaining life threatening injuries during the assault.
A second subject, 38-year-old Derek Wilkins, who was also on scene at the time officers arrived, was taken into custody. After an investigation into the incident, he was subsequently arrested for attempt to commit murder, a Class B felony, and domestic abuse assault using a deadly weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor.
The MPD was assisted by the Marshalltown Fire Department, UnityPoint EMS, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
