Summer’s almost over

Hundreds of people wandered the hallways, learning the layout of the building and getting questions answered for the upcoming Marshalltown Community School District year.
Fifth grader Giovanni Perez poses for his family in front of a photo-op space set up in the entry of Lenihan. Perez, new to Lenihan this year, says he is a little nervous about starting the year on Monday because he might forget where to go. The photo-op and props was Attendance Specialist Vanessa Coronado’s idea as she wanted to give families a chance for memories, making the event more enjoyable.

Children at Lenihan Intermediate Elementary went to the Back to School Night on Wednesday. New and veteran students explored the hallways and were introduced to their 2025-26 teachers. Principal Kyle Young visited with students and families as he and his staff assisted families with any questions for the upcoming year, which starts on Monday.

“I’m looking forward to Monday,” he said. “We’re always excited. [Back to School Night] is a good chance for everybody to put names to faces, to connect with families and answer any questions which might be causing anxiety. It’s really easy when everybody helps out and gets us running.”

Starting at $4.38/week.
