TAMA — A Tama man was arrested on Tuesday evening after allegedly assaulting his neighbor for mowing his yard too late at night and then fleeing the scene when officers arrived.

According to a press release from the Tama Police Department, a 911 call was received about a disturbance in the 900 block of East 8th Street at 8:34 p.m. as the caller reported that her boyfriend was physically pulled off of a lawnmower because he was mowing too late. When officers arrived and began to investigate, they found that an assault occurred, and a knife was involved during the incident.

The suspect was identified as 61-year-old Lincoln Bartusek, who then communicated to law enforcement and displayed a knife through a window, shut the blinds and refused to open the door. After officers made entry into the house, it was found that Bartusek had left the residence on foot.

Tama Police K9 Creed was deployed and tracked the suspect through the neighborhood, and Bartusek was eventually found near the corner of 13th and Business 30 in a patch of timber. He allegedly refused to cooperate and was apprehended by the K9 Creed after not following multiple commands. Bartusek was treated at the scene for his wounds by Tama EMS and transported to the jail.

About an hour after the initial call, law enforcement was called back to the same address as the victim was trying to leave to go to the emergency room and was confronted by Bartusek’swife. Officers arrived and separated the parties.

Bartusek was held at the Tama County Jail on the following charges: assault causing bodily injury, interference causing bodily injury, interference with official acts and public intoxication.

Assisting the Tama PD were Tama County 911, Toledo Police Department, Tama County Sheriff’s office and Tama EMS. As of Wednesday, Bartusek was no longer listed as an inmate in the Tama County Jail after posting a $2,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 19 at 9 a.m.
