Four more suspects arrested in connection with Aug. 26 shooting
- Jebe
- Youngblut
About 3 ½ weeks after an Aplington man was charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that allegedly occurred at Nicholson-Ford Park in Marshalltown on Aug. 26, four more suspects — two of whom are juveniles — have been arrested as part of the investigation.
According to a press release from the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD), 18-year-old Kinnick Youngblut of Fairbank, 18-year-old Gavin Jebe of Waterloo and two juveniles, both of whom will be charged as adults, now stand accused of first degree robbery, a Class B felony. The first suspect, 19-year-old Nicholas Olivares, was charged with attempt to commit murder and two counts of first degree robbery, all Class B felonies, willful injury, two counts of assault while participating in a felony and going armed with intent, all Class D felonies, the day after the initial incident.
On the night of Aug. 26, a gunshot victim arrived at the local UnityPoint Health hospital at 8 p.m., and MPD officers and detectives were dispatched to speak to the victim, who indicated that they had been shot a short time before while another victim was struck in the head with a handgun. A criminal complaint indicated that the suspects intended to rob the victim of THC vapes.
Based on a description provided by the victim and access to FLOCK license plate reading cameras, the suspect’s vehicle was quickly produced, and the MPD reported that the victims appeared to be “specifically targeted.”
The MPD received assistance from the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force, Waterloo Police Department, Waverly Police Department, Butler County Sheriff’s Office, and Bremer County Sheriff’s Office during its investigation. Olivares, who is being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $75,000 bond, is currently scheduled to stand trial on Nov. 4. Both Youngblut and Jebe were being held in the Marshall County Jail on $35,000 cash bonds as of Friday afternoon, and their preliminary hearings are scheduled for Sept. 29 at 9:30 a.m.
