‘Live from the Iowa Alps’ art exhibit at Windy Goat Acres

CHELSEA — An exhibition of outdoor sculptures by Iowa artists will be on display at Windy Goat Acres, 3091 Q Avenue, Chelsea, Iowa, from Sunday, Oct. 5 to Nov. 8. “Live from the Iowa Alps” is an exhibit of site-responsive outdoor sculptures to be installed at Windy Goat Acres, a small hobby farm and campsite in Central Iowa. Marshalltown artists Lisa Cantrell, Joshua Cox, Dawn Gettler, and Buz Owen will be joined by Des Moines artists Rachel Buse, Ethan Edvenson, and Kat Hutchison. Jessica Kettler, proprietor of Windy Goat Acres along with her Partner Jim Carney, will also be presenting artwork.
“Live from the Iowa Alps will feature artwork created specifically for this exhibit. Artists were encouraged to visit the farm and familiarize themselves with the rural and natural landscape of Central Iowa,” exhibit organizer Joshua Cox said. “The artwork – sculptures, textiles, drawings, and music — will reflect the artists’ sensorial and emotional experiences within the farm and landscape and hopefully also create a dialogue between the visitor and the landscape.”
Artwork will be installed amongst the farm buildings, along hiking trails, and throughout the grassy bluffs of the rolling Iowa landscape.
“This is such a beautiful area of Iowa, it’s called the Iowa Alps for a reason,” Cox said. “Our goal with this exhibit is to emphasize not only the natural beauty of our region, but the aesthetic and emotional connection that we all have to the world around us.”
Visitors to the exhibit are welcome to visit with the farm animals, wander the forests and fields of Windy Goat Acres, and to explore the unique artwork created by local and regional artists. Live from the Iowa Alps will open on Sunday, Oct. 5 from 1-3 pm. Live music by Buz Owen will be performed, hot dogs and s’mores will be available around a campfire, and drinks will be available through Windy Goat Acres’ garden bar. The exhibit is free to the public, but donations to the farm will be accepted. Families are welcome. For questions, please contact exhibit organizer Joshua Cox at joshuacox99@gmail.com.
The exhibit is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
