Perdue arrested in Polk County, now in Marshall County Jail

Perdue

Dewey Perdue was arrested Monday night in Polk County and is in the Marshall County Jail.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Lt. Mark Chance said Perdue wanted to turn himself in and was arrested without incident. He said a relative of Perdue’s called the county dispatch and told them Perdue would be at a gas station in Bondurant.

“He was totally compliant,” Chance said. “There was no resistance.”

Two Polk County deputies transported him halfway when they were met by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and transferred Perdue, 69, to their custody.

He was considered to be at large and suspected in a Saturday incident during which two people were shot. One of the victims was treated and released that night, and the other was considered to be in critical but stable condition in an out-of-county medical facility. According to a series of criminal complaints, Perdue allegedly went on to the victim’s property and shot both that victim and another subject after an argument. One of the victims was shot approximately seven times throughout his body, and the other was shot twice with non-life threatening injuries.

MPD Chief Chris Jones said that when officers responded to the scene at the 800 block of East Main Street on Saturday, they found that Perdue had fled on foot. Officers set up a containment perimeter encompassing several blocks, but Jones added that law enforcement was not able to set it up fast enough as he got outside of the perimeter.

Perdue is charged with:

Two counts of attempted murder, class B felonies which carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison;

Willful injury causing serious injury, a class C felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $13,660 fine and;

Willful injury causing bodily injury and going armed with intent, both class D felonies which carry a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,245 fine.

Jones added that people who helped Perdue hide or evade authorities could potentially be arrested and charged with accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Perdue is currently being held on a $50,000 cash only bond, and a preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 3 at 9:30 a.m.
