Poetry reading event sponsored by IVH to be held Oct. 2
‘Anybody that loves poetry is welcome’
T-R FILE PHOTO Iowa Poet Laureate Vince Gotera of Waterloo looks on as IVH Library Technician Catherine Noble introduces him during his poetry reading event to residents and staff in the Malloy Leisure Resource Center on March 19.
Add poetry to the list of subjects Catherine Noble of State Center is passionate about.
The IVH Library Technician’s passion about making the facility’s library well-stocked and welcoming is clearly evident.
She and fellow IVH staff are especially passionate about poetry when it entertains and benefits IVH and Marshalltown-area residents.
Noble, of State Center, will emcee a poetry reading event Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the Malloy Leisure Resource Center (MLRC) on the IVH campus. The event is free of charge and open to non-residents too.
“Several residents — veterans here — will be reading their poetry as well as works by esteemed poets Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost, among others,” she said. “Anybody that loves poetry is welcome.”
In March, Noble and colleagues featured a compelling poetry reading by Iowa Poet Laurate Vince Gotera. The retired University of Northern Iowa English professor is also a U.S. Army veteran as was his father.
His poetry, which featured his and father’s military career, was especially enjoyed by the numerous residents in the audience. For more information, contact Noble Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the IVH library, 641-753-4412 or catherine.noble@ivh.state.ia.us.
