Pure Releaf moving from 13th Street to Main

Marshalltown’s Main Street is getting new residents – Pure Releaf and Underberg Chiropractic.

Pure Releaf, the 13th Street District business, is relocating to the downtown area and will have a soft opening on Monday.

Owner Tyler Underberg said Underberg Chiropractic, formerly 13th Street Chiropractic which is owned by his brother Johnathan, will open on Sept. 15. That date will also mark the grand opening at the new location, 216 E. Main St.

“We should have everything finished,” he said.

Underberg said they decided the Main Street location was “perfect” and provides a more centralized spot in the city.

“There wasn’t a lot of time to look at places, but you know it when you see it,” he said.

According to Underberg, they have to be out of their 13th Street location at 209 N. 13th St. by Sunday. He said they were informed the building lease had ended and were given a 21-day notice.

“It’s been a hectic couple weeks,” he said.

Leaving the historic 13th Street District is hard for Underberg as he loved the location. He has a lot of memories of car shows, concerts and appreciated that he was able to witness the evolution of the district through the years.

“I grew up across the street from my shop and it really worked well being down here, as a lot of my customers are elderly and come from the Iowa Veterans Home, and from Embers,” he said.

However, not a lot of people knew the CBG (cannabigerol) business was there. The products at Pure Releaf are all free of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound in cannabis.

“I think the new location being on Main Street and more in the center of town will help bring new clientele,” Underberg said. “Also make it a little easier for people to access.”

However, he is aware the city will soon start phase 2 of the downtown streetscape project in front of his new shop. Fortunately, Underberg said there are plenty of parking spots around the Main Street location, including big parking lots so hopefully it will not be too bad.

The move might inspire him to start propagating the succulents he had in Pure Releaf, as his customers ask him every day if they could buy a baby plant off him.

“I usually just give them one,” Underberg said.

Even though the move will make Pure Releaf leave the part of Marshalltown Underberg has grown to love, he is excited about the future and the new adventure with his brother.

“I am also looking forward to making new friends and customers, and being able to help more people get their life back,” he said.
