Warrants issued for man suspected in Saturday night shooting

Perdue
Five active warrants have been issued for Dewey Perdue, an at-large man wanted in connection with a Saturday night shooting. He is considered armed and dangerous, and there has not been solid indication that Perdue has left Marshalltown.
Perdue, 69, allegedly fled on foot from a residence on the 800 block of East Main Street after shooting two people in what is not being considered a random act of violence. One victim was treated and released from the hospital that night.
The other was taken to an out-of-county medical facility. Marshalltown Police Chief Chris Jones said he was notified yesterday that the second victim was in critical but stable condition.
The criminal charges against Perdue include:
• Two counts of attempted murder, class B felonies which carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison;
• Willful injury causing serious injury, a class C felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $13,660 fine and;
• Willful injury causing bodily injury and going armed with intent, both class D felonies which carry a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,245 fine.
According to Jones, at the shooting scene the responding law enforcement units, which included the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and Iowa State Patrol, set up a containment perimeter “several blocks out” from the scene when they found out Perdue fled on foot, running southbound.
“We did not know how far he might have fled before we contained the area,” he said. “By the time we searched the containment, he had gotten outside the perimeter. We did not get it [contained] fast enough.”
The area law enforcement covered was two or three city blocks and included the bicycle path, a creek and a lot of open areas.
“We covered the majority on foot, had officers looking through high grass areas and the [MCSO] drone covered what we could not get to,” Jones said.
The chief said that thus far, there has not been evidence of Perdue leaving town in a vehicle and no evidence of him being in the Des Moines metro area.
Perdue is 5’9″, 205 pounds and was last seen wearing dark pants and a dark-hooded sweatshirt.
“We hope he will turn himself in without incident and resolve this incident for his and the victims families,” Jones said.
Jones added that if any person is helping Perdue hide or evade authorities, they will potentially be arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Anyone who sees him or is aware of his location is advised to call 911 immediately. If any person has information on Perdue’s whereabouts, call the Marshalltown Communication Center at 641-754-5725 ext. 0. Anonymous tips can be texted to CrimeStoppers at 641-753-1234. Jones said people should text the word “marshall” followed by a space and the tip.
