Halloween and Day of the Dead happenings

Spooky season is upon us. Marshalltown and surrounding areas will celebrate with trick or treating (leave an outdoor light on), fall festivals, food, music and other surprises. Day of the Dead activities will also be honored.

Wednesday, October 22

Bickford Assisted Living of Marshalltown, 101 Newcastle Road, will host Bickford Family Fall Fest from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Come celebrate the season with treats, beverages and great company.

Thursday, October 23

Hosted by Marshalltown Central Business District (MCBD), the annual Haunt the Block will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Marshalltown for safe, family-friendly trick-or-treating with amazing local businesses. Costumes are encouraged.

Friday, October 24

• Rhodes Fall Festival. A fall market in Memorial Park will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a screening of “Hotel Transylvania” in the park, starting at 7:30 p.m.

• Trunk or Treat at Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Healthcare, 9 N. Fourth Ave. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., bring the kids, dress up in your favorite costumes, and enjoy a safe and festive trunk or treat experience for all ages.

Saturday, October 25

• Rhodes Fall Festival continues.

• Trick or treating for City of Marshalltown from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• Trick or treating for City of Haverhill from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• Trick or Treat Trail and Haunted Hayride: Head to Tama for the Halloween Trick or Treat Trail, spaghetti supper, trunk or treat and Haunted Hayride. Trick or Treat Trail at the STC High School parking lot will run 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. At the Tama Civic Center enjoy a spaghetti supper, freewill donation, starting at 5 p.m. until gone. From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. take a Haunted Hayride at the Tama Civic Center/Cherry Lake. Trunk or treat in downtown Tama will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sponsored by the City of Tama Emergency Services, the STC Student Council and the Tama-Toledo Chamber of Commerce.

• Marshalltown Speedway kids’ trailer trick o’ treating from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, October 29

• Trick or Treat Costume Parade Storytime at the Marshalltown Public Library, 105 W. Boone St., will run 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Storytime includes a few stories, songs and movement activities, then a parade around the inside of the library to collect treats at different areas, ending in the large activity room for a free book and some hands-on fun. Storytime is free and there is no pre-registration needed for families. Daycares and any other group wanting to bring a larger group should call the youth desk at 641-754-5738, ext. 3 and check for options. Costumes are welcome, but not required.

• The Gutekunst Public Library will be having a special storytime on from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. We will be reading “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” watching a movie and doing a craft.

• Glenwood Place, 2907 S. Sixth St., trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring the haunted hallways. Residents can’t wait to see your kids all dressed up in their Halloween best. The Funky Pepperoni will be on-site serving up delicious pizzas.

• Accura HealthCare of Marshalltown, 2401 S. Second St., will host trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bring your little ghouls and goblins for a night of candy, costumes and community fun.

• Marshalltown Community College’s annual Pumpkin Jamboree will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Student Activity Center. Enjoy Trick-or-treating, Halloween Carnival Games, Pumpkin Decorating, Haunted Maze, Telescope viewing, Inflatable Corn Maze, Photo Scenes, Coloring Contest, BINGO, Spooky Storyteller, Haunted Hall, Glow Mini Golf. Enter at the South Entrance to the college by the District Office Building and start in the Student Activity Center on the MCC Campus. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the MCC Food Pantry.

• City of Green Mountain trick or treating from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Thursday, October 30

• City of Melbourne trick or treating from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• City of State Center trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• City of St. Anthony trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• Trunk r’ Treat at Applebee’s parking lot, 3101 S. Center St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Costume contest: win $100 Applebee’s gift card, voted by staff working. Must be present to win.

Friday, October 31

• Trunk or Treat at the ARL, 1921 Taylor Ave., will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the ARL headquarters. Also included: a mystery box game, temporary tattoo station, spooky refreshments and more. Contest for trunk decorating. Enter through the Werewolf Woods. Arrive in the Safe Zone filled with candy, games and fun. Exit through a one-of-a-kind haunted cemetery with a thriller of a surprise at the end. Free admission, donations welcome.

• Halloween Spooktacular at Primary Health Care in Marshalltown, 101 Iowa Ave. W, Suite 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join us for a spooktacular night of Halloween fun at our Marshalltown Clinic. Bring the kids for trick-or-treat tables, games and small prizes. Wear your best costume and enjoy a safe, family-friendly Halloween celebration.

• Trick or treating for City of Conrad from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• City of Ferguson’s trick or treating is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• City of Le Grand trick or treating will run 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The fire station will hand out glow sticks, starting at 5:30 p.m.

• City of Laurel trick or treating from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• City of Tama trick or treating will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• City of Toledo trick or treating with run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• City of Liscomb trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• City of Rhodes trick or treating from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• City of Gilman trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• City of Clemons trick or treating from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• Halloween Party at TC’s Pub, 921 N. 3rd Ave., starting at 7 p.m. Spooky drink and shot deals, and DJ Scoob will be spinning some great tunes.

Saturday, November 1

• Día de los Muertos at Riverside Cemetery. This Day of the Dead, we welcome you to honor, remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who came before us. Extended hours: gates open until 10 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 2. Bring a candle, a photo, or a quiet moment of reflection. Whether you create a small ofrenda (offering) or simply walk among the memories, Riverside Cemetery offers a peaceful space to connect with tradition and remembrance. All are welcome.

• City of Albion trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday, November 2

• First Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration at Midnight Garden, 1501 S. 17th Ave., starting at 2 p.m. In partnership with the ARL of Marshalltown, it will be a vibrant celebration of life, remembrance and community. ARL will be offering vouchers for free microchips, Rabies & Distemper/Parvo — totaling more than $20,000 in real-world value for pet owners. It’s outreach with impact, and a chance to connect with families who may not normally attend shelter events. Also enjoy a kids’ movie, hot chocolate, Day of the Dead bread, food stands, live music, and more. Everyone is encouraged to dress up.

• Día de los Muertos continues at Riverside Cemetery.
