Beta Sigma Phi celebrates member’s 100th birthday

Virginia Bumsted celebrates her 100th birthday.

Sigma Master Chapter met for lunch at Pizza Ranch with seven members and one guest present on Nov. 11. President Dorothy Perry thanked Karen Shipley-Cooper for hosting the day. Alice Nicholson took roll call with the question: “What is your favorite food for Thanksgiving?” Minutes of the October meeting was read and approved. Barb Noid was not present so there was no Treasurer’s report given.

Health reports were given with more surgery needed for one, and prayers for others requested.

Old business: Five members attended the birthday party for member Virginia Bumsted at Harmony Nursing Home on Oct. 22. She delightfully celebrated her 100th birthday with her son Gary, who is also a resident. A tribute was read of her life being born in New York and furthered her career as a secretary with a law firm, then working at the public library in Marshalltown, as the Story Hour Lady. She is a life member of Beta Sigma Phi.

A thank you to International for sending condolences to members after family loss. It was very much appreciated by Jan Keller and Caralee Hutchens.

New Business: Invitation to Wings of Refuge, Ames, was received to join them on Nov. 13. Information was given as to the need for contributing, and Nicholson made a motion to give $100 of our service project and second by Hutchens. Motion carried with all in favor for a well deserving cause.

Meeting closed after many items on the City Council was discussed, and it was announced the 11 a.m., Dec. 9 meeting will be held at El Portal with Bonnie Speas hosting. bdallah Abu Quta.
