Goslinga joins Stanley, Wahl on Marshalltown school board

T-R PHOTO BY ROBERT MAHARRY Frank Boriskey, front right, was all smiles as he prepared to cast his ballot in Ward 1 at the Marshalltown Public Library on Tuesday. As of the noon hour, about 100 people had voted in person there.

Marshalltown residents voted in three candidates for at-large seats on the Marshalltown Community School Board during yesterday’s election.

As a result, one new face will be seated behind the board table – Eric Goslinga, who received 1,891 votes.

He said he was grateful for the support and excited to get the opportunity to serve. This was Goslinga’s first contested race, even though he was elected to the Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner Board in 2024.

“I am excited to get the chance to serve, and grateful and humbled by the support,” he said.

Goslinga faced incumbents Leah Stanley, Zach Wahl and Karina Hernandez. The former two will remain on the board. Stanley pulled the highest number of votes yesterday with 2,281 and Wahl received the second highest with 1,981.

Wahl said he appreciated everyone who took time to go to the polls and cast their votes.

“I look forward to pushing the school district forward and getting things going,” he said. “I’m excited to keep moving with what we have built in the last four years.”

Hernandez received 1,835. Goslinga acknowledged it was a close race with Hernandez, as he received only 56 more votes.

“I want to congratulate Karina for her time and her service,” he said. “Not everybody chooses to serve on a school board.”
