La Carreta Owner Alfonso Medina and his team turned the House of Compassion soup kitchen into a Mexican restaurant on Tuesday night, serving a free meal with no questions asked in light of recent food insecurity concerns and uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown. A lengthy line formed well past and into the sidewalk outside of the House of Compassion, which is located at 211 W. Church St.
