GARWIN — The Garwin Enrichment League (GEL) held its 3rd annual Soup with Santa event on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, welcoming roughly 30 area children to the shelter house in City Park for a delicious meal and a chance to share their wish lists with Santa.

Both before and after the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus by way of Garwin firetruck, the evening’s meal was organized and served by members of the League thanks to the generosity of several community partners, GEL’s Kristine Kienzle told the newspaper. In total, 60 people attended the event which continues to grow each year, she added.

Sponsors for this year’s Soup with Santa included:

–Garwin Valley Church: potato and chicken noodle soup

–Garwin Christian Church: chili

–Garwin Enrichment League: hot dogs, hot cocoa, and goodie bags

–Lisa Dougall: decorated cookies

–Garwin Fire Department: safe arrival via firetruck for Santa and Mrs. Claus

–UAW Women’s Auxiliary: Mr. and Mrs. Claus

A freewill donation was collected as part of the holliday festivities. Funds raised by GEL are earmarked for future events, including community improvement projects and the annual Garwin Freedom Days Celebration.

“GEL thanks the community for their generous support. Be sure to follow the Garwin Enrichment League on Facebook for upcoming events for a continued reminder that small towns can do big things!” Kienzle said.

Starting at $4.38/week.
