Vaughn Hauser, front, one of two WWII veterans who resides at the Iowa Veterans Home, celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by friends, family and staff with a party inside the Ulery Building on Thursday afternoon. Hauser, who hails from Urbana and served in the U.S. Army, is known on campus as “the drummer” and served as one of the grand marshals of the Red, White and Blue parade last July 4 alongside former U.S. Navy Ferry Pilot Ralph Alshouse.
