The Marshalltown Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1200 block of West State Street on Sunday evening around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.

According to a press release, officers arriving in the area quickly surrounded the location and thoroughly canvassed several neighborhoods, but the suspect had fled the area on foot.

The victim, whose current condition is unknown, was taken to Unity Point Hospital and later transported to a Des Moines medical center.

“The Marshalltown Police believe this to be a targeted act of violence and are working to provide more details regarding this event soon,” the release said.

According to Chief Chris Jones, the suspect has not yet been arrested.
