CONTRIBUTED PHOTO The Marshalltown Police and Fire departments successfully rescued a stranded dog from the Iowa River on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Marshalltown Police Department received a report of a dog stranded in the Iowa River. Officers responded immediately and initiated a search of the area. With assistance from a police drone, the dog was located along the river near East Main Street Road.

Due to the dog’s location and surrounding conditions, officers were unable to safely reach the animal from the shoreline. The Fire Department was requested to assist and responded with a rescue boat. Fire personnel successfully retrieved the dog from the river without incident.

The Animal Rescue League also responded to the scene and took custody of the dog following the rescue. The Police Department would like to thank the Fire Department and the Animal Rescue League for their assistance and cooperation in ensuring the safety of the dog.
