The Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Marshalltown is seeking assistance locating a dog that was stolen during a break-in to the organization’s shelter on Tuesday night.
According to a press release shared to Facebook, the dog is a large brindled Bull Mastiff mix with an active vicious animal determination issued by the city of Marshalltown.
“While we do not have reason to believe the dog is dangerous if left undisturbed, he has a documented history of aggression toward other dogs. For the safety of the dog and the animal, please do not attempt to approach or capture him,” the ARL wrote. “If you see this dog, call 911 immediately.”
The organization is currently working with local law enforcement, and evidence is being processed to identify the individuals involved. While the ARL said it could not currently release any further details, the release sought to be clear that the dog was not slated for euthanasia.
“He could have been safely reclaimed through the standard process. By removing him from the shelter, the individual(s) involved have placed him at greater risk. If this dog is involved in another incident while in their custody, the consequences may fall on the animal — not the people who took him,” they wrote. “Our priority is the safe return of this dog. To that end, we are willing to forgo pressing charges if those responsible contact us directly and return the animal unharmed.”
The ARL is also offering a reward for information leading to a conviction in the case.
