MCSD celebrates Public Schools Week, Feb. 23–27

The Marshalltown Community School District will celebrate Public Schools Week from Feb. 23-27, recognizing the vital role public education plays in preparing students for success and strengthening the Marshalltown community.

Public Schools Week honors the educators, support staff, families and community partners who work together each day to serve MCSD students. The district’s work is guided by its mission: “We develop learners who have the knowledge, skills and positive mindset to successfully pursue a meaningful future through personalized learning experiences.”

Through that commitment, MCSD strives to ensure every student is known, valued and supported with high-quality, personalized instruction.

Recent results from the Iowa School Performance Profile highlight continued progress across the district. MCSD has shown positive growth in key academic indicators, including student growth and graduation rates. These gains reflect the dedication of staff, the perseverance of students and the strong partnership between schools and families.

In addition to academic growth, MCSD offers diverse opportunities that allow students to explore their interests and develop leadership skills. Career and technical education pathways, advanced coursework, athletics, fine arts and student organizations provide meaningful experiences that prepare students for college, careers and civic life. The district’s ongoing focus on social-emotional learning and a positive school culture further supports students in developing the resilience and mindset necessary for long-term success.

“Public schools are the heart of our community because they are the only institutions built on the promise of serving every child, regardless of background, ability or zip code,” said Dr. Theron J. Schutte, superintendent of Marshalltown Community School District. “We offer more than just a curriculum; we provide a diverse, competitive, and supportive environment where students learn to navigate the real world alongside peers from all walks of life. For parents, choosing a public school means choosing a partner committed to transparency, local accountability and the collective success of our next generation.”

Public Schools Week also reinforces the district’s call to action, “Embrace the Lead.” At MCSD, embracing the lead means empowering students to take ownership of their learning, encouraging staff to innovate and collaborate and inviting the community to actively support public education. By working together, the district continues to build learning environments where students are challenged, supported and inspired.

The Marshalltown Community School District invites families and community members to join in celebrating Public Schools Week by recognizing the achievements of students and staff and reaffirming their commitment to public education.
