D’s Auto becomes B’s Auto in Toledo

PHOTO BY MICHAEL D. DAVIS The buyers of D’s Auto, Chris Blocker and Brent Wilkerson, get passed the torch by former owner Doug Yuska and his wife Connie.

TOLEDO — If you’ve stalled out, had a thumping under the hood, or simply don’t know your dipstick from your tailpipe, then you’ve probably taken your car down to D’s. D’s Auto is a local institution, but with the change of a single letter, this classic establishment in Toledo is being passed on to a new generation.

Doug Yuska has owned D’s Auto for 33 years, but now, at the young age of 67, he’s decided to retire.

“I just thought it was time, and I found two young guys that were wanting to expand, so that’s why I sold it,” Doug said before saying with a laugh, “and my age. My body, my body told me it was time.”

The two young guys in question are local boys Christopher “Blocky” Blocker and Brent Wilkerson. Their shared dream to take over D’s is one that has been gestating for the better part of a decade. Brent was the first to offer to take the place off Doug’s hands back in 2019. Blocker tried a couple times himself in recent years to no avail as Doug just wasn’t ready to sell.

The two kept the dream alive and kept in contact with Doug, and then in September of last year, the idea became reality. On the first day of 2026, D’s Auto officially became B’s Auto.

The art of the inner workings of the automobile is no stranger to these two. Brent has a bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology from Kirkwood and has worked everywhere from Sears Auto Center, Z-Line LTD, Family Auto, and North Liberty Automotive. Back in 2018, he started his own place called Wilk’s Repair, and that’s been keeping him busy ever since.

Blocker started his education of everything with motors at the age of 12 under the tutelage of his grandpa. A year later, at the old age of 13, he started helping out at Blocker’s Auto Body. For formal training, Blocker went to Hawkeye Tech for Auto Body and Collision Repair.

After graduation, Blocker worked at Family Auto as a tech before going to the Tama Paperboard. Although he wasn’t doing it professionally, during this time, Blocker would always be working on his hobby cars or the vehicles of others. He got back into being a tech again when he went to work at Gregg Young in Marshalltown. Around the same time, Blocker started his business venture in the form of a YouTube Channel called “Blocky’s Garage.”

After owning and operating the establishment for over 30 years, Doug had too many good memories to choose from. However, working with his ex-partner quickly rose to the top. It was the people which made the place special for Doug, meeting people and customers, talking to all of those who came in the door.

“I’m glad for my customers and my friends,” Doug said, thinking back over the years.

As for what the next stretch of road looks like for Doug, he says it will be filled with travel and doing anything he wants, simply enjoying retired life. He wishes Blocker and Brent luck and says he knows they’ll be busy.

As for Brent and Blocker, they said of the future, “I’m sure there will be some changes, but Doug and Dale have built such a great business over the years, so we will be trying to emulate that as best as we can. Our biggest priority will always be taking care of our customers to the best of our abilities.”

The grand opening of B’s Auto is on April 11. Whether you drive a Chevelle or a Geo, head on down on Saturday, the 11th, to meet the new guys and usher in a new era.

And the next time your car starts making that noise again or that light on the dash flicks on, take it on down to B’s Auto. Same place, new letter, new heads under the hood. B’s Auto is located at 206 N. County Rd. in Toledo.

Starting at $4.38/week.
