MNPD investigating vandalism at Powwow Grounds
MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — The Meskwaki Nation Police Department is investigating a recent incident of vandalism at the Powwow Grounds that resulted in damage to the light fixtures at the cookshack and speaker stand.
“This kind of behavior is not just reckless, it’s disrespectful to the entire community. These grounds are maintained for everyone to use and enjoy. Damaging it shows a lack of respect for the Powwow Grounds, the memories we have made there, and the people who take pride in them. It also creates unnecessary costs to repair and replace what was damaged, costs that ultimately impact our community,” the MNPD wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “If you were involved, now is the time to reflect and make it right.”
They concluded by asking everyone to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the MNPD.
“We are aware of the situation and support efforts to hold those responsible accountable to prevent further incidents,” they wrote.
