On Sunday, the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD), in cooperation with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, arrested a suspect in the shooting incident that occurred in the 100 Block of North 11th Avenue earlier that day.
Officers arrested 29-year-old Allen James Hart from Mount Pleasant and charged him with the following offenses: intimidation with a dangerous weapon with intent, a Class C felony, reckless use of a firearm resulting in injury, a Class D felony and reckless use of a firearm resulting in damage to property, an aggravated misdemeanor.
The identity of the individual who died as a result of the shooting has still not been publicly released, and the other three victims have been treated and released from medical care.
The case remains ongoing. The Marshalltown Fire Department, UnityPoint Hospital Emergency Services, the Marshall County Communication Center, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation have assisted in the incident.
“The Agents, Investigators, and Support Staff conducting this investigation want to assure the public that the safety and well-being of the Marshalltown community is their highest priority,” the MPD wrote in its latest press release.
According to court records, Hart was previously convicted of possession or carrying of dangerous weapons while intoxicated in Henry County related to an incident that occurred on June 16, 2025 during which he was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In response to a follow-up from the T-R, Police Chief Chris Jones said the Marshall County Attorney’s Office has 45 days to file formal criminal charges, and the MPD is working closely with the attorney’s office as additional evidence is processed.
