Arrest warrants issued for two men in connection with Hellberg’s Jewelers burglary

Arrest warrants have been issued for two Des Moines men wanted in connection with a burglary at Hellberg’s Jewelers in downtown Marshalltown on April 4, according to a press release issued by the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) on Wednesday.

At 4:06 a.m. on April 4, MPD officers were dispatched to an alarm call at the store and, after arriving about two minutes later, observed that the business had been broken into shortly beforehand.

“Detectives and Crime Scene personnel were called in to investigate and process the scene. Marshalltown investigators worked on developing suspects and processing evidence related to the burglary over the last few weeks,” the release reads.

On Wednesday, warrants were issued for 53-year-old Douglas Allen Baker and 59-year-old Dewayne Edward Rowley, both of Des Moines. Neither suspect is currently in custody, and they have active arrest warrants throughout Marshall County.

According to Iowa Courts Online, Baker currently has a pair of third degree burglary cases pending in Dallas County and a controlled substance violation case pending in Polk County. and has several prior convictions for felony theft and burglary, primarily in the Des Moines area. Rowley also has a lengthy criminal history and was most recently convicted of attempted third degree burglary in 2023.
