Des Moines man charged with three counts of sexual exploitation in Marshall County

DES MOINES — A Des Moines man who is already a registered sex offender is facing three felony sexual exploitation of a minor charges in Marshall County over allegations that he sent inappropriate online messages to a State Center Police Department (SCPD) officer posing as an underage girl.
According to a trio of criminal complaints, Derek Eugene White, 51, was arrested at his home in Des Moines on Friday after allegedly sending the explicit messages on Monday — one requesting a photo, another requesting a video and a third asking what he believed to be a 15-year-old girl to show him her genitals in a video and also sending a message stating his intent to have sex with her.
White was booked into the Marshall County Jail and is being held on a $150,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing is set for April 27 at 9:30 a.m. He is already a registered sex offender in Iowa due to a 2001 conviction for indecent contact with a child as a result of an incident that occurred in Warren County when he was 24, and the female victim was between the ages of 0-13.
