T-R PHOTO BY ROBERT MAHARRY The NuCara Pharmacy in Marshalltown, located at 421 E. Merle Hibbs Blvd. inside the McFarland Clinic building, is one of 14 that has been acquired by OneroRx, the largest franchisee of the Medicap Pharmacy brand. The NuCara Home Medical Store at 219 E. Main St. has also been acquired by OneroRx.

WEST DES MOINES — OneroRx, an integrated pharmacy serving underserved markets, has completed its acquisition of 14 NuCara Pharmacy and 10 Home Medical Equipment locations in Iowa and Minnesota — including pharmacies in Marshalltown and Grundy Center and the home medical store in Marshalltown — bringing its total to 91 locations across eight Midwest states, employing over 1,000 team members.

OneroRx operates as the largest franchisee of the Medicap Pharmacy brand owned by Cardinal Health. Through this acquisition, OneroRx becomes the largest rural-based pharmacy in the state of Iowa, filling more than 5 million prescriptions per year. With this purchase, OneroRx expands availability and services for home medical equipment, meeting a growing need.

“We are excited to announce the completion of this acquisition of select NuCara Pharmacies and Home Medical stores,” said Joseph Dunham II, CEO and President of OneroRx. “Our focus remains to provide rural access to pharmacy care at affordable prices. This mission began with our founder, John Pappajohn, who served on the OneroRx Board of Directors from 2018 until his passing in 2023.”

A press release said OneroRx “leads the industry by focusing on personalized, community-based care and combining expert pharmacist guidance with innovative, convenient services. These services include prescription delivery, medication synchronization, multi-dose packaging, 24/7 kiosk access, compounding services, critical support for long-term-care patients, and home medical equipment.”

Acquired NuCara locations will be newly branded as Medicap Pharmacy or Medicap Home Medical. This process has started and will continue over the next several weeks.

The acquisition comes about a week after NuCara announced the closure of four of its pharmacies in Ackley, Conrad, Traer and Zearing. The Conrad pharmacy, which opened in 1973 and operated for over 50 years, was the first location that launched a chain eventually spanning 30 pharmacies in four states.

Starting at $4.38/week.
