State Center, Albion departments respond to fire in Lamoille likely caused by lightning strike

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO The State Center and Albion Fire Departments responded to a structure fire in Lamoille that was likely caused by a lighning strike on Friday night.

LAMOILLE – On Friday evening at about 8:13 p.m., the State Center Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the unincorporated community of Lamoille that was determined to have most likely been caused by a lightning strike.

When the SCFD received the call, dispatch advised that the fire had just started and that there were no people inside the structure. The Albion Fire Department was dual paged to this incident and arrived on scene along with State Center.

SCFD Chief Brad Pfantz advised all incoming units that there was moderate smoke coming from the eaves and that this would probably be a working attic fire. Albion stretched hose lines and sent in two firefighters to the second division.

Two of State Center’s vehicles arrived on scene and sent multiple crews inside. One crew went to the second division and began opening walls to expose the fire and put a knock down on it quickly before the fire spread got worse. The second crew went to the basement to check for extension through the balloon frame structure and cleared the subdivision before heading up to assist with fire attack and overhaul.

After some investigation with the caller on scene, the power company, and some markings on the house, it was presumed to be a lighting strike that caused this fire. One photo included in a social media post showed a piece of window flashing that has a flared electrical burn close to the ground rod for the residence.

Albion and State Center remained on the scene for roughly 90 minutes before deeming the house safe and releasing the residence back to the homeowner. No injuries occurred.

In addition to Albion Fire and Marshall County 911 Dispatch, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the incident.

Starting at $4.38/week.
