Woman charged with Ames murder arrested for sexual assault at Marshall County Jail

Skurdal

A former Ames woman who is awaiting trial in Story County on charges of first degree murder and first degree robbery has been charged with third degree sexual assault, a Class C felony, for an act allegedly committed on May 1 while she was an inmate at the Marshall County Jail.

According to a criminal complaint, Destiny Elizabeth Skurdal, 21, “knowingly and willfully inappropriately touch(ed) the victim, in a sexual manner, on or around the groin area.”

“This charge is a result of a PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) investigation at the Marshall County Jail. The Marshall County Jail has a zero tolerance policy regarding sexual assault within the facility. This means they do not tolerate any level of sexual harassment, misconduct, or assault in the facility,” the complaint reads.

Skurdal’s trial on the Story County charges is currently set to begin on Sept. 22. She is charged with shooting and killing 25-year-old Parker Stoneburner of Boone at an Ames apartment on Jan. 18, 2025, when, according to a criminal complaint, Skurdal admitted to police that she had invited Stoneburner to the residence “with the intent of taking the controlled substances and currency by threat of force and displaying real and simulated firearms.”

In the attempt to take the controlled substances and currency, an assault was committed on the victim and the individual was shot with a handgun,” it reads.

In the Marshall County case against Skurdal, a preliminary hearing has been set for June 2 at 9:30 a.m., and bond has been set at $10,000 cash only.

Starting at $4.38/week.
