The Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) is helping keep youth fed during the summer months with the Summer Food Service Program.

MCSD Director of Food Service Lynn Large presented the schedule and locations to the Marshall County Food Access Committee during a Tuesday meeting.

“We are in full-swing,” she told committee members. “We started on Monday and then Wednesday we [had] our elementaries kicking off.”

Meals are available at all of the district buildings, but not during the entire summer. For example, she said Anson Elementary will operate for three weeks, and locations such as the YMCA, the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Marshalltown High School will operate during all of June and July.

Large said the June and July meals are congregate, which means people have to attend in person and eat on site. In August, the program will transition to non-congregate meals and will provide groceries to go.

“We’ll bag up all the food and it will be like curbside in front of Lenihan,” she said. “We’re hoping that people will definitely come and eat with us in June and July, but also will take advantage of the to-go meals in August.”

Large said the meals are free to anyone aged 18 and younger. They also do not have to be residents of Marshalltown or an MCSD student.

“They can come from anywhere to participate,” she said.

SITE LOCATIONS

District meals are served at all of the school buildings during various times during the summer, and also at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Marshalltown Public Library.

• Marshalltown High School cafeteria, 1602 S. Second Ave.; Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through July 24. No meals will be served July 3 and July 22. Only lunch will be served July 23.

• Rogers Elementary, 406 Summit St., Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. through June 30. People need to enter the building through door 7, which is the playground entrance.

• Woodbury Elementary gymnasium, 8 N. Seventh Ave.; Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. through June 30.

• Miller Middle School cafeteria, 125 S. Eleventh St.; Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to noon. through June 30. The location is closed on Fridays. People need to enter through door 15.

• Anson Elementary, 1016 S. Third Ave.; Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. through June 30. People need to enter through door 10, which is the north playground entrance.

• Marshalltown Public Library, 105 W. Boone St.; Lunch from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until July 21 and snacks from 3 p.m. on 4 p.m. on Wednesdays until July 15

• Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 20 W. State St.; Lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., snacks are available Mondays and Fridays from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. through Aug. 14. No meals will be served July 3.

• Lenihan Intermediate cafeteria, 212 W. Ingledue St.; In person breakfast from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and lunch from 11:15 a.m. to noon from July 6 to July 24; Weekend to go meals are available today, June 19, June 26, July 2, July 10 and July 17 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Parents can pick up the meals; To-go groceries for three or four days will be available on July 24, July 28, July 31, Aug. 4, Aug. 7, Aug. 11 and Aug. 14. From July 17-24, service will only be available on Fridays. After July 24, services will be available on Tuesdays and Fridays. No meals will be servied July 3 and July 22 and lunch only will be served July 23.

• Fisher Elementary gym, 2001 S. Fourth St.; Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. starting July 6 through July 24. No meals will be served July 3 and July 22 and only lunch on July 23. People need to enter through door 5.

• Franklin Elementary gym, 1315 W. Main St.; Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. starting July 6 through July 24. No meals will be served July 3 and July 22 and only lunch on July 23. People need to enter through door 9.

• Hoglan Elementary, 2306 S. Third Ave.; Breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. starting July 6 through July 24. No meals will be served July 3 and July 22 and only lunch on July 23. People need to enter through door 4.
