TAMA — The Tama Police Department announced sad news on Monday as their K-9 unit, Creed, passed away after battling “a serious illness.” Creed had joined the department in 2025.
“It is with heavy hearts that the City of Tama Police Department announces the passing of our beloved K-9 partner, Creed, who was humanely laid to rest today after courageously battling a serious illness,” the department wrote in a press release. “K-9 Creed faithfully served the citizens of Tama and worked alongside Officer (Logan) Andrews with unwavering loyalty, dedication, and courage. More than a police dog, Creed was a trusted partner, a protector, and a valued member of our department family. His impact on our officers and our community will not be forgotten.”
Creed’s accomplishments during his service included being recognized as the USPCA Patrol Case of the year, several narcotics and drug paraphernalia alerts/finds, 14 successful tracks locating missing, wanted and criminal subjects, multiple building searches for suspects and one criminal apprehension.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the citizens of Tama and the surrounding communities for their unwavering support of our K9 program. Through your generous donations and contributions, our department was able to launch and sustain this program, providing an invaluable resource for public safety,” the release reads. “Your continued support and belief in our mission have meant so much, and K9 Creed’s legacy is a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together. Officer Andrews and the City of Tama would like to thank North Tama Veterinary Clinic for the care and support of Creed.”
The department thanked the public for its messages of support, thoughts and acts of kindness during a difficult time.
“We ask that you continue to keep Officer Andrews, his family, and the members of the City of Tama Police Department in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of our loyal partner and friend. Though his watch has ended, K-9 Creed’s legacy of service, loyalty, and devotion will live on in the hearts of those he protected and served,” the release concluded. “Rest easy, K-9 Creed. Thank you for your faithful service. We have the watch from here.”
