Former Gilman man serving prison sentence in Kansas for ‘indecent liberties with a child’
Chesick
EL DORADO, KAN. — A former Gilman man, now 83, who was arrested and charged with sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child in Marshall County back in 2024 is currently serving a prison sentence in Kansas for similar offenses but is still set to be extradited back to Iowa and tried here once the Kansas sentence is complete.
According to Marshall County Sheriff Joel Phillips, Stanley Joel Chesick is currently incarcerated at the El Dorado Correctional Facility serving five to 20 years after being convicted, on May 26, of indecent liberties with a child while in Woodson County, Kan.
“He is currently wanted out of Marshall County for the sexual abuse offenses. Once he completes his sentence in Kansas he will be extradited back to Marshall County for his Iowa criminal charges,” Phillips said. “During our investigation and interviews of potential victims, we discovered the sexual abuse occurred over several years while Chesick resided in Kansas.”
Chesick’s Iowa trial was originally scheduled to begin on Aug. 26, 2025. After he failed to appear, a warrant for his arrest was issued the following day.
As part of the Iowa investigation, Chesick was later charged in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred in rural State Center in 1977, but the charges stemming from that separate case have since been dropped.
