Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) families who need help preparing for the upcoming school year or updating their relevant information will have a chance to do so during Registration Day at Lenihan Intermediate School on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“Everyone is welcome. We can reset passwords for returning students, but a way faster way to do that is just to call over to the Welcome Center and they can do it. You don’t have to show up in person to get your password reset,” MCSD Executive Director of Educational Services Shauna Smith said. “But a lot of our new families need us on that day.”

Registration has been moved from Miller Middle School to Lenihan due to the ongoing construction project there, and it will be located in the Lenihan gymnasium. Some families may be asked to set up individualized appointments at a later date, but the goal, Smith added, is to encourage families to show up on Thursday because “all of the experts” will be on hand, from foodservice staff to nurses to preschool and English Language Learners coordinators (ELL), translation services and the technology integrationist.

“It’s just all hands on deck, and we have the staffing to be able to answer all of the different detailed questions for the families,” Smith said. “But most importantly, we need accurate information. Sometimes families move. Sometimes they get a new cell phone number or they want to change their emergency contacts. All of that is a part of the registration process, and it just helps set us up for success and effective lines of communication for both the school and the families.”

All students who have already registered for preschool will automatically be eligible to register at their zoned elementary school. All new students, whether they’re coming from one of Marshalltown’s private schools or another community, will still need to register at the MCSD Orpheum Welcome Center located at 220 E. Main St.

Classes will start on Monday, Aug. 24, and Back to School Night will be held the prior Wednesday, Aug. 19. Anyone with questions is encouraged to call the MCSD Orpheum Welcome Center at (641) 352-7303 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
