CONTRIBUTED PHOTO The Marshalltown Fire Department battled a blaze inside of a detached garage on Monday evening.
At 5:47 p.m. on Monday, the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to the alley adjacent to 207 N. 3rd Ave. for a detached garage on fire, according to a press release. Upon arrival, a dilapidated, single story “L” shaped building with 7 roll-up style garage doors was found with heavy smoke conditions showing from one of the garage doors.
The building is known to be occupied by homeless individuals. First arriving fire crews established a water supply and suppressed the fire with two hose lines. Overhaul of the structure was difficult due to the volume of material in the area of origin. Additional firefighters were called in to assist with the incident. No victims were found inside the building.
The Marshalltown Police Department , Marshall County Communications, and Unity Point EMS contributed to the successful conclusion of this incident, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
